Woo!!!!! Hockey is back and time to look at all the Polish players in North America this year. There are a grand total of *drumroll* three.
Alan Lyszczarczyk Owen Sound Attack (OHL) 5 GP 3 G 2 A 5 PTs
The big dog of Polish hockey is back in Owen Sound for his final OHL season. He started off the year on a tryout with HC Karlovy Vary in the Czech league, but after not making it, he returned to Owen Sound. Owen Sound could have a really good year or bad mostly relying on how far top NHL draft pick Nick Suzuki can take them and if the goaltending can improve. Lyszczarczyk should have a big role on this team but there are also rumors he could find himself traded.
Regardless, Lyszczarczyk is off to a great start of the season. He is scoring at a point per game pace so far and averaging 4.75 shots per game. That is the highest PPG and shot rate in his entire OHL career, while yes a very small sample it is a promising start for Lyszczarczyk.
Mateusz Wawrzkiewicz Tampa Bay Juniors (USPHL Premier) 8 GP 1 G 1 PTS
Wawrzkiewicz is having a bit of a difficult time in his first USPHL Premier season. So far he has a single goal and has been a healthy scratch multiple times. Last year, Wawrzkiewicz tore it up in the USPHL Elite and had some of the best numbers for players his age. It is important to remember that Wawrzkiewicz is one of the younger players in the Premier. He is the 2nd youngest on his team, but still, his production will need to improve.
Michal Wojciechowski Airdrie Thunder (HJHL) 5 GP 1 A 1 PTS
Wojciechowski transferred to the Thunder after spending 2017-18 with the River East Royal Knights in the MMJHL. The Royals were the worst in the MMJL by a lot so I was happy to see Wojciechowski on a new club. The Thunder have 5 wins in 5 games placing them first in their conference. Alas, the Thunder, like the Royals, are small junior B team in Canada, which means the only thing I’ll be able to get is stat updates for his season again.
That has been the initial update. I do expect two more players to be added to this list as the season goes on, as two polish players will be playing some High School hockey in the states. I also might have Filip Starzynski updates here, if he makes the Norfolk Admirals.
