We are in the middle of July, which is the middle of the offseason. In the next few weeks, teams will open the on-ice portion of their training camps. Plenty of roster spots are still open, and we saw quite a few Finns and Swedes making the jump to Poland this week.

GKS Katowice

  • Katowice has added Swedish forward Filip Rydström. The 6’3 center has had an interesting path in hockey. He originally started in the Vallentuna junior system in Sweden before moving to Canada to play for the Charlottetown Islanders in the QMJHL. After two seasons, he moved to the Omaha Lancers of the USHL, serving as captain. After his junior days, he returned to Canada to play for the University of Prince Edward Island for four seasons. The 27-year-old returned to Sweden after college and has played in the HockeyEttan for Väsby IK over the past two seasons.

GKS Tychy

  • No moves this week.

JKH GKS Jastrzebie

  • Lithuanian national team forward Mark Kaleinikovas will return to  Jastrzebie after becoming a playoff hero in Oswiecim. 2025 will be Kaleinikovas’ third THL season after recording 38 points (15G-23A-38PTS) in 48 games in 2024. He scored the golden overtime goal that won Unia Oswiecim the 2024 THL Championship. Kaleinikovas also helped Lithuania win a silver medal at the Division 1 Group B World Championship.
  • The club also picked up Finnish winger Teemu Pulkkinen. This is a return to Poland for Pulkkinen, who won a championship with GKS Katowice in the 2023 season and posted 17 points (10G-7A-17PTS). Pulkkinen spent last year in British hockey, scoring 18 goals and assisting on 20 with the Fife Flyers. He had previously played in the Danish league and spent two seasons in the Liiga with Jukurit. He played with the University of Nebraska-Omaha in the NCAA before turning pro.

KH Torun

  • Swedish forward Julius Persson will join Torun and should be an offensive leader. Persson has spent most of his career in the second level of Swedish hockey with BIK Karlskoga. In 291 HockeyAllsvenskan games, he has 46 goals and 66 assists. The 30-year-old forward has also played in Denmark, France, and Norway.

Podhale Nowy Targ

  • No moves this week.

STS Sanok

  • No moves this week.

Unia Oswiecim

  • The defending champs made a significant defensive addition with Andreas Söderberg. The Chicago Blackhawks picked the Swedish defender in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL draft. The 6’5 Skellefteå native has played in 346 HockeyAllsvenskan games across eight years but also has 39 SHL appearances on his resume. While his reputation is that of a defensive defenseman, in his lone season in Sweden’s third league, he picked up 39 points (4G-35A-39PTS) in 52 games.

Zaglebie Sosnowiec

  • After four years away, Jesperi Viikilä is returning to the THL. The Finnish forward had played in the Mestis before signing with Sanok in 2021. During his first THL stop, he was third on Sanok in points with 27 (9G-18A-27PTS). Since then, he has played in the Alps hockey league and spent the last two years in the Erste Liga with Budapest Jégkorong Akadémia HC.

Polish Players Abroad

  • Poland U18 forward Adam Sawicki will head to the United States to play for the Boston Jr. Rangers in the USPHL Premier. The 17-year-old forward has played for the SMS Torun and Sanok junior systems. With the Polish U18 squad, he scored three goals and three assists at the Division 2 Group A World Championship. The Boston Jr. Rangers organization also has a squad in the NCDC and is playing its first year in the USPHL system after previously being in the EHL junior system.
