While the thundering thuds, whistles, and bangs of fireworks were heard across Canada and the United States this past week, there wasn’t much noise in the THL. Still, Sosnowiec might have finished their top line, while Sanok got on the board significantly.

  • GKS Tychy took care of their young talent this week. It started with re-signing Szymon Kucharski on a one-year deal. Kucharski led the MHL in scoring with 33 goals during the 2023 season. He had a solid follw up year in 2024, with 31 points (14G-17A-31PTS) in 18 games. Kucharski took his first steps in THL, appearing in ten matches. He also represented Poland U20 at the D1B World Championship, scoring twice and assisting on another goal.
  • Szymon Chabior will be Tychy’s third goalie this year. The 17-year-old will likely spend most of his time in the MHL with MOSM Tychy. He was in camp with Poland U18 last year and appeared in four MHL games.

STS Sanok

  • Sanok announced the return of several of their homegrown talents from last year, along with the return of Finnish head coach Elmo Aittola. Boguslaw Rapala and Marcin Ćwikła will also remain on staff.
  • The highlight of the returning players are Bartosz Florczak and Karol Biłas. Florczak, 21, had a huge year and was in consideration for the Men’s World Championship squad. He had a goal and three assists in 38 games for Sanok last year. Biłas has also been in contention for the Polish senior team but has suffered shoulder injuries that ended his previous two seasons. He made a quick impact upon his return in 2024, recording six points (1G-5A-6PTS) in 15 games.
  • Among the other returning players are Damian Ginda, Dawid Musiol, Konrad Filipek, Kacper Niemczyk, Krzysztof Bukowski, Jakub Mazur, Marcin Duleba, Michal Starosciak, Szymon Dobosz, and Szymon Fus. Muisol is the veteran of the group at 27 years old. It will be his 11th year in the THL, and the defenseman is a two-time THL champion. Krzysztof Bukowski returned to Poland from Switzerland last year. The 22-year-old foward was tied for the league among Polish players in scoring with 10 points (4G-6A-10PTS). Konrad Filipek served as an assistant captain for the squad last year and won a THL championship with Cracovia in 2017.
  • The club will also be bringing Kacper Rocki and Mateusz Siekierka from abroad. Rocki spent last year in Sweden with Sudrets HC in Division 2. He also represented Poland U20, picking up two assists. Siekierka comes home after playing with the AZ Havířov junior system in Czechia. He had 28 points (17G-11A-28PTS) in the second level of Czech U20 hockey while also getting one game in with the senior team, where he picked up a goal and an assist.

Unia Oswiecim

  • Big defenseman Kacper Prokopiak is returning to the defending champs. The 18-year-old came in at 6’5 and spent time at both forward and defense in the MHL in previous year. He is one of the top prospects in the country given his size and ability on the ice. Prokopiak got in 27 games with Oswiecim this past season, going pointless. He represented Poland at the D2A U18 World Championship, posting 7 points (1G-6A-7PTS).

Zaglebie Sosnowiec

  • Sosnowiec has landed another Polish star in Radosław Sawicki. The Sanok native joins Sosnowiec after spending the last two seasons as an assistant captain with Cracovia. While last year was a down season with 16 points (10G-6A-16PTS), he owns a career .76 point per game average. From 2020 to 2023, he had 37 points or more in all four THL seasons. If he joins forces with Damian Tyczynski and Patryk Krezolek, they could form one of the best lines in the league.

Polish Players Abroad

  • Julia Skręt will stay in Sweden but switch clubs in Sweden’s Division 1. With Södertälje SK in 2024, she had three goals and two assists in 32 games. The Tychy native also spent some time in the top junior league, finding more offensive success with 9 points (6G-3A-9PTS) in 18 games. For 2025, Skręt will join fellow Pole Nadia Ratajczyk on Järnbrotts HK.
  • Forward Eryk Kowalski and Defenseman Maksym Makuch will both play for the Nordic Hockey Academy U18 in the Austria U18 league next year. Kowalski, 16, played four games for the Krefelder EV 1981 U17 squad in Germany last year. Makuch splint the year with the Nordic Hockey Academy U17 squad and MOSM Tychy. The 16-year-old defender had 12 points (3G-9A-12PTS) in 17 Austria U17 games last season.
