The biggest question in the THL all year has been if the early season parity would hold. November presented a mixed bag of that as the usual suspects charged back to the top of the standings. The top four are not yet blowing everyone out or leaving them far behind in the standings. The league feels more competitive even if some early season stars are starting to fade.

THL Power Rankings

  1. Zaglebie Sosnowiec (Oct. Rank-1): Sosnowiec still sits atop the standings and our rankings. The team only suffered two losses in the month, while they picked up 5 wins. A favorable schedule allowed Sosnowiec to be five points ahead of any other THL team.
  2. GKS Katowice (Oct. Rank-3): Katowice’s offense found its groove scoring three or more goals in all but one game this month. Unfortunately that one game was a 7-1 thrashing at the hands of GKS Tychy. A lot of questions remain for this squad, but they can be the best team in the league at times.
  3. GKS Tychy (Oct. Rank-6): Tychy is back and that should scare the rest of the league. They started off November with five straight wins out scoring their opponents 22-9. The momentum continued with a Polish Super Cup win over Jastrzebie. The month ended though with an upset loss to Cracovia. A month that proves anyone, besides Sanok, can beat anyone this season.
  4. KH Torun (Oct. Rank-5): Outside the top three in our rankings there were a lot of mid months. Torun continues to be the ultimate wildcard team thanks to a potent offense. They’re extremely hard to put down as evidenced by taking Katowice and Tychy to overtime in back to back games.
  5. Unia Oswiecim (Oct. rank-4): The inconsistent performances have continued in Oswiecim. They got big wins over Cracovia, Jastzrebie, and Sosnowiec, but loss to Bytom, Katowice, and Tychy. Its hard to get a clear picture if they’re a real contender.
  6. JKH GKS Jastrzebie (Oct. Rank-2): A lot of the one goal games that were going the way of Jastrezbie to start the season have started to flip with teams piling on the goals. In a 1-5 month Jastrzbie was out scored 25-16 (Excluding 9-2 win over Sanok).
  7. Polonia Bytom (Oct. Rank-7): Polonia continues to be a nice addition to the THL. The arrival of Pavel Padakin should be a huge boost offensively. The Ukrainian forward has four points in his first seven games. Bytom picked up an upset win over Oswiecim in a 3-5 month.
  8. Cracovia Krakow (Oct. Rank-8): Wins over Tychy and Sosnowiec are something to celebrate! Who cares how the rest of the month went.
  9. STS Sanok (Oct. rank-9): It felt like a better month for Sanok… They had a close match with Cracovia only losing by two goals. Sanok also managed to not allow more than nine goals in a game after allowing double digits twice last month.

THL Players of the Month

MVP – Hannu Kuru (GKS Tychy). In the Polish Super Cup, Tychy had two goals and both were by Kuru. The hero of the Super Cup also had a stellar month in the THL with two goals and five assists. Kuru is on pace for a second season over a point per game average in Poland.

Forward – Zdeněk Sedlák (KH Torun). Torun currently has three players with 30 points and four of the top five scorers in Poland. It’s hard to honestly pick one as the leader, but Sedlák is November’s top forward. The Czech center had nine points in the month, including three multi-point games.

Defenseman – Jacob Lundegård (GKS Katowice). Lundegård serves as a critical part of the Katowice defense. The Swedish defenseman had five assists in November, doubling his season total.

Goalie – Tomáš Fučík (GKS Tychy). A huge part of the Tychy resurgence is due to their star goalie Fučík. The national team starter picked up five straight wins with a total save percentage of .947!

U23 Player – Szymon Kiełbicki (JKH GKS Jastrzebie). Kiełbicki takes the young player of the month honors with four goals and two assists in seven games. He is on pace to set a new career high in goals.
