Significant changes are here for women’s hockey in Poland. The top league is expanding to 11 teams, but will be split into two divisions. The Tauron Liga Hokeja Kobiet (TLHK) had ten teams in 2024, but dropped to nine for the 2025 season. The competitiveness of the league has been a subject of considerable scrutiny over recent seasons. The league has made multiple efforts to fix it, and it appears that the division system will be the new way to help address this.
TLHK
The top league will feature six teams for this season. The six clubs will be the defending champions BS Polonia Bytom, Kojotki Naprzód Janów, GKS Stoczniowiec Gdańsk, SKKH Atomówki GKS Tychy, UKHK Unia Oświęcim, and PTH Kozice Poznań. While Polonia Bytom has been dominant and the defending champions for over a decade, Kojotki Naprzód Janów has been closing in and even beat Bytom in a game during last year’s finals. The regular season will run from September 6th to February 1st. The top four teams in the standings will advance to the playoffs. The playoffs will begin on February 18th, the finals on March 21st, and conclude by April 2nd at the latest.
These changes are an excellent step for the league and will enable Polish players, and especially members of the national team, to play more competitive games consistently.
TLHK Division 1
The first league will consist of MMKS Podhale Nowy Targ, KS Cracovia 1906, SMS Bytom, Kojotki Naprzód Janów II, and SKKH Atomówki GKS Tychy II. The season will run from September 6th to March 21st. There will be no playoff, only a regular season champion.
The first division will feature the second squads of Poland’s best teams, along with two of the programs that finished in the bottom three last season. UKH Biale Jastrzebie was the other team to finish last in the bottom three last year, but won’t be returning. It’s hard to drop teams down a level, but Nowy Targ and Cracovia were losing games by an average score of 6 and 9 goals. They’ll be better able to play and improve against the young players of the top clubs in Poland.
