The growth of hockey in Poland continues, and there is no better sign of that than more fans in the stands. The European Alliance of Hockey Clubs released its annual attendance report for European and Asian hockey leagues. The Tauron Hockey League held its spot at 13th place. The alliance reported that THL attendance was up to 1,266, an increase of 3.94%. This was 11th in growth among the 21 tracked leagues.

This year’s growth was mainly the result of three clubs. Cracovia, Jastrzebie, and Katowice all had their numbers rise by over 200 fans a game. This also saw Cracovia and Jastrzebie rise above one thousand fans on average. Only one PHL club is now below 1,000 fans per game.

Sosnowiec was once again the top-ranked club in the report for Poland, coming in at 212th with an average attendance of 1,601. That was only three fans ahead of Tychy for the title. No Polish club ranked inside the top 200 this year, after Sosnowiec was 188 last year.

Seeing all the fans in the stands this past season was great. The league was able to increase attendance in a year when two teams, Podhale and Sanok, were fielding very poor rosters. Those teams were also traditionally highly ranked in attendance and have dropped in consecutive years. The growth of other teams has more than made up for their decreases. If they can return to being competitive, we will see the league climb the ranks of European hockey attendance.
