The Summer Olympics are ongoing, and as of writing, Poland has one silver and three bronze medals. The offseason action continues to slow down in Poland, but one club had gold medal level signing this week as Polish hockey legend John Murray will stay with GKS Katowice. We also saw three Swedes sign with Cracovia, Sanok added a couple of imports, while Oswiecim plunked another star from Katowice.

Cracovia Krakow

  • A new Swedish trio has arrived in Cracovia to complete their roster. The first signing was defenseman Anton Brandhammar. Brandhammar is an offensive defender who has played in top three levels of Swedish hockey. 2025 will be his first season abroad after posting 11 goals and 19 assists in 44 games in the Hockeyettan last year.
  • Swedish forward Johan Lundgren will stay in Cracovia for a second season. The 29-year-old was the team’s leading scorer last year with 40 points (21G-19A-40PTS) in 46 games. Before coming to Poland, he played in Denmark and in the top three levels of Swedish hockey.
  • The final member of the trio was 25-year-old Swedish forward Oliver Olsson. Like the other two, Olsson played in top three levels of Swedish hockey. He spent most of his time in the Swedish third league, scoring 132 points (43G-89A-132PTS) in 208 games. Last year, his production was below his usual standards, with only one goal and six assists in 35 games.

GKS Katowice

  • John Murray officially re-signed with GKS Katowice for a fourth season and his 11th THL season. Murray, an American goalie, has become an icon of Polish hockey after his long performance as a top goalie in the THL and with the Polish national team. He is a six-time league champion who also helped Poland return to the Elite division of the World Championship. For the full version of Murray’s story, check out the piece we wrote before his match versus Team USA at the World Championships.

  • Canadian defender Hudson Wilson is joining an extensive North American coalition in Podhale. The 6’3 defender is a physical defensive minded player who played his junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), mainly with the Ottawa 67’s. He spent the last four seasons with Acadia University in the Canadian hockey league.

STS Sanok

  • Wilson’s former teammate will now be his rival as Eric Henderson joins Sanok. The Canadian forward played in the OHL, mainly with the Oshawa Generals, before playing university hockey with Arcadia. Henderson played his first professional season last year in the Southern Professional Hockey League with the Huntsville Havoc. In the SPHL, he had 44 points (18G-26A-44PTS) in 54 games. This was fourth on his club in scoring.
  • 24-year-old Finnish defender Joona Tamminen also joined Sanok this week. The young defender has played with Kiekko-Espoo over the past three years, posting 38 points (8G-30A-38PTS) in 169 Mestis games. He previously served as an assistant captain with the Kiekko-Espoo U20 squad. Tamminen is a two-way defender who should be expected to play a significant role this year for Sanok.

Unia Oswiecim

  • Oswiecim has signed another player from the club they beat in the THL finals with center Sam Marklund. The Finnish center is a strong all-around player and shined in his first year with 50 points (23G-27A-50PTS) in 57 games for GKS Katowice. Marklund’s 50 points were tied for the sixth most in the league. Before coming to Poalnd, Marklund played in the top two levels of Sweden and spent a year in the British hockey league.
  • Long-term backup goalie Robert Kowalówka is back with Oswiecim for a fifth straight year. Kowalówka is a three-time THL champion and has appeared in 101 games over 13 seasons. He has split his career between Oswiecim (six years) and Cracovia (seven years). During his junior days, Kowalówka represented Poland U20. He is the brother of longtime Oswiecim forward Sebastian Kowalowka.
