Polish national team star Patryk Wronka is staying put with Podhale Nowy Targ. Wronka led the Tauron Hokej Liga in regular season scoring with 55 points (19G-36A-55PTS) in 39 games. As one of the faces of Polish hockey, he was poised to be a top free agent this offseason. He will be a key player for Poland when they play at the IIHF World Championship in May.

Wronka is one of the most exciting hockey players in Europe. For non-Polish fans, watch his highlights, and you will become a Wronka fan. The 5’8 forward is staying home with his youth hockey home. Wronka developed in the Podhale Nowy Targ junior system and first played for the club from 2014 to 2016. He also spent time with Poland with Cracovia Krakow, GKS Katowice, and GKS Tychy. The skilled playmaker appeared outside of Poland with Orli Znojmo in the EBEL and a split season between British club Belfast Giants and French Club Gap. In his PHL career, Wronka has 471 points in 452 THL games. He won a THL championship with GKS Katowice in 2022 and was a part of the Polish National team squad that won silver and promotion at last year’s year’s Division 1 Group A World Championship.
Podhale was able to get back on the map last season after struggles the previous few seasons. The club was coming off back-to-back dead last finishes. This year was their first playoff appearance since 2021. Podhale made a huge effort to bring in stars of the league this year with Alex Szczechura, Damian Kapica, and Mike Cichy among the major additions. Despite the improvement and big offseason additions the team would be eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by GKS Tychy in six games. So far Wronka is the third player to re-sign with the club joining goalie Pawel Bizub and defenseman Dmitri Zalamay.
