The winning has not stopped for GKS Katowice. The club has advanced to the final round of the 2024 Continental Cup tournament. The Continental Cup is a tournament featuring the top teams from Europe’s mid and lower-tier leagues. Katowice earned the chance to compete in the tournament following their championship season in Poland during the 2022-23 season. The Polish club clinched promotion after only day two of it’s group tournament. Now, with an overtime loss on the tournament’s final day, they will advance to the group stage after finishing first in their group.

The champions of Poland got off to a strong start thanks to their leader, Grzegorz Pasiut. The veteran forward would score four goals to help Katowice defeat Ferencvárosi TC from the Hungary Erste Liga. The final score was 5-4 after a late comeback attempt by Ferencvárosi TC with three goals in the final ten minutes. In their second match, Poland would easily beat Italian club SG Cortina from the Alps Hockey League. The last in that second game was 8-0, with ten players getting on the score sheet. This victory clinched GKS Katowice’s promotion going into the final day. They were the first club to claim a spot. In the last match, the Polish club faced the Danish club Herning Blue Fox. Katowice would lead by two late into the third, but the Blue Fox would not go down easy and came back to force overtime. The Fox would complete their comeback in overtime to win 3-2. A rare loss on the season for Poland’s leading club.

GKS Katowice, Nomad Astana (Kazakhstan), and the runner-ups from both groups will now play in the final event in January from the 12th to the 14th with a to-be-determined host. This result is already an improvement from last year for the Polish league representation. Last year, Unia Oświęcim failed to earn promotion out of round three. During the 2022 tournament, Cracovia Krakow won the event and became the first Polish club to do so. Katowice will now look to become the second Polish club to lift the Continental Cup.
